Bob GoetzOn another post people are complaining about plate cost's, here they are not the bad but last year I was presented with an alternative and this issue made me think. Jay has gotten our cars into the Turkey Rod run so I am working on the MSRA, last year they had over 10000 cars at this event and it is for 1964 and older, they have let newly constructed street rods in as they look like older cars. So I am going down to apply for a Street Rod plate, we have these here in Minnesota but I see California does not offer them, sorry guys. Here the application reads " Street Rod plates will be issued to any car built before 1949 or to any car manufactured to resemble a car built prior to 1949" the plates only cost a one time fee of $32.50 for the life of the car! So I have e-mailed the MSRA and asked them this, your event is open to 1964 and older and I noticed this year a lot of newly constructed cars that look like old Fords, Chevys, Studebaker I have sent my application into the State of Minnesota for "Street Rod" plates for my car as it resembles a old Ford/Plymouth roadster built prior to 1949, if they give me the plate will I be allowed in? I am sure it will take them awhile to get back to me but lets see.

KlasKatI think we have those her in Colorado and I would be very interested in that also. What a great way to get around the high cost of plates. I will check here to see WHATSSSSSSSSSSSS UPPPPPPPPP..
condorA Street Rod is is modified Car -- pre 1949.
Most Car Show / Hot Rod & Custom Car Events work with a cut of Year . All NSRA Events are strictly pre 49" .
The Goodguys Rod & Custom Assoc. has different cut of years . many are pre 72" some Events in Pleasanton are open to all american made cars. The Prowler is the only new car that fits under the defination HOT ROD. ( Today I see no realy cut of year for the word- Hot-Rod // if you look to the cars shown in Hot Rod Magazine, but Street Rods are pre 49"
In the comming years we will see more modified´- customized Prowler , were the differents to a new build pre 49" High Tech Street-Rod is hard to see. But, you will still see in your Title - the year 1997 / 1999 to 2002 . This makes the difference.
Specialy the customized PROWLERS fits perfekt in to the Turkey Run , Daytona Beach.
pumpkinWill check here in New Mexico.

"I may have to grow older, but I do not have to grow up!"

KlasKatI checked with our Motor Vehicle Dept for the State and yes there is a class for Street Rods, however, it it just says manufactured in 1948 or earlier. So will not be able to get one in Colo. One thing I did notice is they do have plates for disabled Veterans, that might also be a way to get cheaper plates. LATES
KrautThis is a very interesting issue. If, indeed, new glass bodied street rods built to look like old cars are eligible for these special plates, then a case could be made for the Prowler. It is also a new car made to look like an old street rod, regardless of year of construction.
Kelley AustinHere in Arkansas when I got tags for the cat the state regestered it as a " Prowler Hot Rod ". I will check about the Street Rod plates.
Black Tie 161I think by definition a Hot Rod is any car souped up. The new clapped out rice rockets can be considered hot rods just like any other hopped up car....

Would nitrous turbo Yugo still be considered a hot rod?
